Federation Park now 25 years old
Federation Park at Vale View has been in existence for 25 years and is still attracting plenty of attention from visitors and locals who love the outdoors.
The park was a community-based project which came into being utilising a $90,000 State Government grant under the Queensland Community Assistance Program.
It was created to mark the 100th anniversary of the Australian Federation.
The area was transformed into a native parkland with rock pools, a running creek, bush walking tracks and a large open space at the entrance providing for barbecues and picnics.
Former Prime Ministers were renumbered with trees planted in their honour.
There was a formal opening ceremony at the park on Thursday 26th April, 2001.
The official opening was performed by the Deputy Prime Minister of the day, John Anderson, who was accompanied by his wife.
A highlight of the opening ceremony was the contribution made by local school children.
Captain of the Cambooya State School, David Rathmell, delivered an informative speech on Federation, while students in costume from Emu Creek and Greenmount State Schools combined to perform Waltzing Matilda and I Am Australian.
Ramsay State School students performed The Federation Rap and If I Was Prime Minister, which apparently impressed Mr Anderson, and not to be left out, Vale View School students sang several Australian songs and a couple of catchy jingles.
A feature of the event was the unveiling of what was at the time a quite spectacular signboard which, 25 years later, is unfortunately in a sad state of repair.
