Floodway upgrade completed at Southbrook
The Jimna Springs Road Floodway over Umbiram Creek at Southbrook has been completed by Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC), having been delivered through Betterment funding.

Council’s $11.8 million Betterment Program is part of the wider 2022 Flood Recovery Program and is jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments through the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).
TRC Construction and Maintenance (Infrastructure Services) portfolio spokes-person, Cr Carol Taylor, said the upgrade will enhance flood resilience while improving road access during rain events.
“By upgrading the Jimna Springs Floodway we’re building back better,” she said.
“The floodway has been upgraded, including significant structural improvements to increase durability and reduce vulnerability to repeated flood damage.”
State Member for Condamine Pat Weir said the floodway upgrade was crucial to local disaster resilience.
“This upgrade will mean local infrastructure can better withstand the next disaster, and the community can bounce back quicker,” he said.
According to Federal Minister for Emergency Management, Kristy McBain, the focus on delivering resilience projects was a key focus for all levels of government.
“The Albanese Government’s focus is to ensure infrastructure damaged by the 2022 floods is restored and built back better, to withstand the increasingly frequent and intense severe weather events we’re likely to face in the future,” Ms McBain said.
