Footballing family recognised
Members of Oakey’s Dolan family have been honoured for their years of service to the rugby league community in the district with the re-naming of the Trevor Mickelborough Oval scoreboard.
The scoreboard will now be known as the Dolan Family scoreboard.
Family members John Dolan, Daphne Dolan, Brendan Dolan and Ashleigh Dolan were present for the naming ceremony.
Kristine Debney-Dolan, Hannah Dolan and Madison Dolan couldn’t make it.
Along with the above, Darren Dolan played A Grade in the 1990s.
Oakey Bears President Jason Shannon said it was a fitting way to celebrate the Dolan family.
“From playing to coaching, cooking steak burgers, mowing and watering the grounds, to serving as President and Treasurer, and everything in between, the Dolans have truly done it all,” he said.
“They are one of the reasons our club still stands strong today, having been instrumental in several rebuilds over the years.
“Never afraid to roll up their sleeves and pitch in wherever needed, their dedication and hard work have left an indelible mark on our club.
“Community football clubs are built on the back of families like the Dolans.
“We are incredibly grateful for their unwavering commitment, and we are proud to have a permanent fixture at the grounds in their honour.
“Thank you, Dolan Family, for your incredible service to the Oakey Bears.
“Your legacy will live on at the Den for generations to come.”
Oakey Bears Junior President Shane Williamson congratulated the family on their recognition.
