The event was well attended, with raffles being held for prizes donated by local businesses.

Trivia questions went beyond the basic and confounded some players - who knew that giraffes had no vocal chords and were susceptible to heart attacks?

Goombungee’s QCWA branch formed on 26th September 1945, in the immediate aftermath of the Second World War.

One year later in 1946, the Goombungee QCWA Hall was built on the eastern side of Moccatta Street next to the hotel.

This building still serves as the hub of the branch’s activities today, and hosts Devonshire teas on the first and third Wednesdays of the month.

Out of the original founding members in 1945, only one, Daphne Hartwig is still alive today.
