Hero’s Welcome For Matthew Denny

Southern Downs Regional Council has joined forces with the Allora community to honour the men’s discus champion with a street parade and an afternoon of celebrations this Friday 4 October from 2.00 pm.

Southern Downs Regional Council has joined forces with the Allora community to honour the men’s discus champion with a street parade and an afternoon of celebrations this Friday 4 October from 2.00 pm.

Councillor and Allora local Carla Pidgeon said the community was incredibly proud of Matthew’s achievements on the world stage and his tireless journey in getting there.

“Matt outstanding performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics has brought immense pride to our community,” Councillor Pidgeon said.

“We are delighted to celebrate his achievements with this street parade and it is a wonderful opportunity for the community to come together and celebrate Matt’s success.”

Councillor Russell Wantling acknowledged the effort and perseverance that earned Matt an Olympic bronze medal.

“Matt’s journey is inspirational and it’s important that we acknowledge the effort and perseverance that led to him winning an Olympic bronze medal,” Councillor Wantling said.

“His achievements remind us of the power of determination and the support of a close-knit community.”

Southern Downs Mayor Melissa Hamilton said Matt’s dedication and hard work have inspired the entire community.

“Matt’s success at the Paris Olympics is a testament to his dedication and hard work and the support from his community,” Mayor Hamilton said.

“It’s wonderful for us to be able to come together and honour his accomplishments and I am thrilled to see the community’s enthusiasm in celebrating one of our own.”

Residents are invited to gather along Warwick and Herbert Streets in Allora from 1.30 pm.

The parade will start at 2.00 pm from the Allora Discus Circle, head up Warwick Street, turn onto Herbert Street and finish at the corner of Herbert and Drayton Streets.

Following the parade, the community is invited to join Matt at the Allora Community Hall from 3.30 pm to 5.00 pm for a good old-fashioned afternoon tea, including a Q&A Session at 4.15 pm.

ALLORA PUTS ON AN OLYMPIC AFTERNOON TEA!

Everyone is welcome to a good old-fashioned afternoon tea in the Allora Community Hall at 3.30 pm, following the Matthew Denny Street Parade  this Friday.  Have a free cuppa and a snack and be audience to a Q & A session with our local Olympic Hero, Matthew Denny.
