Local success at Beef Australia
Clifton identities both past and present were in the winners’ circle at Beef Australia 2021 in Rockhampton last Wednesday, with Rosehill Santa Gertrudis and BYAC studs taking home first place in Santa Gertrudis categories.
Rosehill Santa Gertrudis Stud of Clifton won the Reserve Senior Champion Female category with Rosehill Q85.
Of the four cows that Rosehill Santa Gertrudis Stud had sent to Rockhampton, one placed first, one placed second and one placed third.
Owner John McCarthy said he was thrilled with the performance of his stud.
“We always enjoy coming up and doing well,” Mr McCarthy said.
Cayb Schwerin of BYAC took home the senior champion and grand champion bull awards with his bull BYAC Quarterback.
The bull, aged 32 months old, is one of 32 he owns.
Mr Schwerin’s brother BJ was the handler for the bull.
Cayb Schwerin grew up in Clifton and lived on his property at Spring Creek until the start of this year.
Mr Schwerin and his family moved to Mungungo, near Monto in the North Burnett Region.
BJ Schwerin still resides in the Clifton area.
Beef Australia 2021 was the twelfth edition of the triennial event in Rockhampton.
Santa Gertrudis was one of the 30 breeds of cattle that were judged in the Nutrien Livestock Stud Cattle Competition.
In addition to judging cattle, food was as an integral part of the festivities as several dinners were hosted with celebrity chefs, as well as bush poetry, boxing and drone displays.
