Mayor and Burton urge Queenslanders get behind Toowoomba Equestrian bid
Toowoomba Region Mayor Geoff McDonald and Olympic medallist Chris Burton are encouraging all Queenslanders to get behind the Toowoomba Region’s push to host Equestrian sports as part of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Mayor McDonald said he hoped Queenslanders who were considering putting in a submission to the Games Independent Infrastructure Coordination Authority (GIICA) 100-day review of Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games Infrastructure, would also give their backing to Toowoomba’s Equestrian bid.
“The Toowoomba Region stands ready to play our role in the delivery of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games through the Toowoomba Equestrian Centre (TEC) Project,” he said.
“TRC has finalised its own submission to the 100-day review backing Queensland Agricultural Society’s push to upgrade the Toowoomba Showgrounds.
“This is a project that was on the table long before the Olympics were announced for South East Queensland and ticks all the boxes of GIICA’s 100-day review.”
Royal Agricultural Society of Queensland CEO Damon Phillips said the group is currently in the final stages of making a formal submission to the GIICA.
Brymaroo-raised Olympic medallist Chris Burton has been supportive of the push for an Equestrian Centre, making comments in local media to this effect.
Members of the public are able to put forward submissions to GIICA and can do so until this Friday (January 10) by visiting www.gamesreview.com.au
“The benefits are clear and that’s why I’m encouraging all Queenslanders to get behind us and back the project in when considering a submission to the 100-day review,” Mayor McDonald said.
The TEC project aims to deliver a world-class equestrian facility that broadens its capability to provide equestrian events at the State, National, and International levels.
