Piranhas make a splash at annual swim meet
The Pittsworth and District Amateur Swimming Club, better known as the Piranhas, hosted its annual swim meet on Sunday.

The Piranhas welcomed 150 competitors and their coaches and supporters from 19 swimming clubs across the Darling Downs and Southwest Queensland.
The annual swim meet is known as a Transition Meet which doesn’t require a qualifying time in order to enter.
Times achieved at Transition Meets can be used for qualifying at all other meets including Regional, State and National Championships.
The events ranged from 25 metres for the 7 and under swimmers, to 50 metres and 100 metres for the older swimmers, along with 200 metre Individual Medleys.
Twenty Piranhas took to the water, swimming impressive personal bests and doing their Club proud.
Many of the young Piranhas took a deep breath and jumped into competitive swimming for the very first time.
Congratulations to all the Piranhas who medalled in the hotly contested age groups: Harper Dever, Isla Fitzpatrick, Chad Jocumsen and Roy Lindenberg.
A special congratulations to Chad Jocumsen who swam four personal bests and took out the 9 Years Boy Age Champion.
The Marvyen Whittaker Medley Relay was a much-loved special event on the day.
The Piranhas congratulated this year’s winning team The Glennie Swimming Club.
It takes a mammoth effort from the volunteers of the Pittsworth Swimming Club to host the annual meet.
A special thanks went to the Club Coach Esther Quinn, whose passion for junior swimming, and the Pittsworth community, is evident is everything she does for the Club.
The staff at the Pittsworth Pool were thanked for having the pool grounds in pristine condition.
Appreciation was shown to the Pittsworth Lion’s Club for running the barbecue and the Bottlebrush Café coffee van.
A very successful multi-draw raffle was held with prizes donated by many businesses including Cain’s Pharmacy, Lilly Pilly Style Boutique, Bottlebrush Café and Darling Downs Zoo.
Club Patron, Sue Heslop, sponsored the $100 boards.
The funds will be put towards swimming equipment and skill advancement for the Club’s swimmers and coach.
Along with all their sponsors, the Club thanked its enthusiastic swimmers and families who made the day memorable, and expressed gratitude to all those involved in another successful carnival.
