Smoked out?
Over 40 people took part in what looks set to be the final Smokin’ the Downs competition organised through the Australian Barbecue Alliance at Trevor Mickelborough Oval last weekend.
There was a jovial atmosphere amongst competitors at the event, with much banter.
Promoter Jess Barnes said that the event would likely not continue beyond this year.
“At this stage, it will be the last Smokin’ The Downs,” Barnes said.
“Unless someone has a lot of money they’d like to donate!”
Locals Smooth and SmOakey Salad Dodgers put their best foot forward, but were unable to claim a category victory.
The meats were judged by an expert panel on their taste, texture, appearance, and finally, dropped/discarded meats as a tiebreaker.
Teams came from a variety of locations.
