Truck driver in crash with tree at Brookstead has lucky escape
A man has miraculously walked away without a scratch after his truck crashed into a tree off the Gore Highway at Brookstead on Monday, 13th January.
At approximately 10.21am, emergency services attended the scene near Saal Road.
Investigations are continuing but Pittsworth police officer Senior Constable Stephen Johnson said the crash was likely the result of poor road conditions.
It is alleged that the truck struck a patch of deteriorated bitumen at the railway intersection and the driver lost control of the vehicle, crossing a lane of oncoming traffic, travelling down the water table and subsequently crashing into a tree, crumpling the front of cab.
The driver was uninjured and already out of the vehicle when emergency services arrived.
Firefighters investigated a suspected fuel leak before personnel left the scene around 11.30am.
Recent Truck Incidents
Emergency services were called out to another incident involving a truck earlier that morning at North Branch.
Two crews from the Qld Fire Department (QFD) attended the scene on Clifton Road near Byculla Road at approximately 8.50am.
The driver, a man in his 60s, was assessed by paramedics after his prime mover rolled off the road.
The patient was transported to St. Vincent’s Hospital in Toowoomba with an isolated arm injury, in a stable condition.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
On January 9, two QFD crews responded to a B-double pulled off the Gore Highway near Nothdurft Road at Yarranlea.
The truck had blown a tyre, but of more concern was the smouldering load of sorghum it was carrying.
Firefighters dampened down the scene until it was safe but the load was lost in its entirety.
